Kaitlyn Parmely- Adam and Eve

For Halloween a common couples costume is dressing up as Adam and Eve. Without even realizing fellow halloweeners are engaging themselves in a form of religious art without even knowing it. Adam and Eve represent the first couple that ate the forbidden fruit from the tree. Not only was the couple naked, but began to be ashamed by their bodies once they ate from the forbidden tree and covered themselves up with leaves. In a way, this can be argued to be the first kind of clothing used. When people dress up as Adam and Eve they are representing both evil and sins in the world as well as innocence. It is almost a half and half between, and it is up to those in costume to wear the side that is most suiting to them obviously. Adam and Eve are also representative of superiority, since Eve was made from a rib of Adam's, this is how men started to be looked at as the superior sex. Obviously this notion has been carried out today, and women are trying to break the glass ceiling and you can argue that is what Eve was trying to do when eating from the forbidden tree. Costumes of Adam and Eve are extremely revealing and sexual because it usually only uses leaves to cover up private parts of the both the male and female; but these costumes are symbolic of sexuality as well. Perhaps why we wear clothes today. It is a sin to engage in fornication before marriage, but temptation overcomes that. The sexual tempation that was started by Adam and Eve has been carried out into all hallows eve night, and no one is concious of this. Self expression and dressing up is an art form in itself, and there are many more representations that can be today today within popular culture.
