I took the above picture at the mansion Atalaya in South Carolina. It belonged to Archer and Anna Huntington who lived there during the first half of the 20th century. This picture shows just a small part of the central courtyard of the house. This building can be seen as profaned, because the house is no longer lived in. It is merely a tourist attraction. Van der Leeuw claims that building may "become an empty shell." This seems to have occurred at Atalaya. Although beauty can still be seen, it is not the same as if people still owned and occupied the place as their home.
