Golgotha-Amy Jackson
Golgotha, also known as Calvary Hill, is believed to be the place of the crucifixion of Jesus. Images of the crucifixion depict Christ on this hill. It is a natural architecture. What makes a place sacred? The cross is a representation of salvation. The art that comes from Golgotha is seen all over the world. To some people it is just another hill. To others it is the place of redemption; a place that signifies sacrifice. It is personal. Is it a sacred place, or just a memory? In the time of the Old Testament, there was a place in the temple called the Holy of Holies. This was believed to be where God was. Only the high priest could enter. When Jesus died, the curtain dividing the Holy of Holies from the rest of the temple tore. It signified God's presence being everywhere. The whole church became a holy place. The hill is where it all happened and it allowed other places to be sacred as well.
