outside reading: Mark P. Orbe "Crash Under Investigation: Engaging Complication of Complicity, Coherence, and Implicature Through Ciritcal Analysis"

I am a Communication major and this theorist uses concepts that I feel are parallel to religion and art. One term Orbe discusses is "coherence". This is a concept that emphasizes interconnectedness and commonality in discursive attempts to facilitate harmonic relations. This makes me think of community and how we are connected together. In a sense, religion is a type of community, where those who participate together create harmonic relations. This term can also relate to the individual, and how each person has their own special forms of expression through worship and art. I feel like art is used as a harmony to reach the divine or to self-express emotions. Another aspect by Orbe is the "Muted Group Theroy" which is a language that suggests the world view. Over time, dominant group members formulate a communication system that supports their perceptions of the world and conceptualizes it as the appropriate language for the rest of society. I think we can all see this present with how the world has shifted over the years. We have transformed from religious art to modern art, which is regulated by the rules society has formed over the decades.
