Music - rebecca hagen

Music is the only art form that is fleeting. Music is purely for the moment; it does not last. Art forms like pictorial art and architecture can be returned to and visited forever. Van der Leeuw describes music as being in the voice of God. Like architecture, Van der Leeuw also sees music as being in danger of losing its holiness.
Van der Leeuw states that music is always combined with atleast one other of his five art forms; usually poetry or dance.
He sees the elements of music to be very primitive. The rhythm and drums being prime examples of this.
It is getting hard to see music as nonpermanent in a modern world with recordings, itunes, etc., but the true essence of the performance can truly only be experienced upon hearing it live.
