Sublime

What is the sublime? Sublime in the every day world sublime is over looked a lot. Edmund Burke as we discussed on the first day of class says the sublime is "wondurous and beautiful quality that is so overwhelming it takes one to his knees". We also said it is so awesome that it makes you feel small. This concept is very interesting to me because there are a lot of things that make me feel small in this world. Every summer that I go spend a week in the outer banks north carolina i look at the ocean and it vastness of the beach that it makes me feel very small. The ocean constantly awe's me and it never gets old really, that feeling i feel the first time i look out over the horizon is never the same but never any less majestic than the last time. Also something that always strikes me as sublime is the sunset. I do not get to watch it everyday which is probably why it never ceases to amaze me, but every time i do watch the sun set i am in awe of something so ordinary. It seems as though it wouldnt be considered anything special but I feel like it is a very special part of the day because all of the colors and what the sun set represents. To me it represents the closing of another day of my life. It makes me think about what I did in that day. I ask myself questions like did i live my day to it's fullest, will I be able to watch the sunset tomorrow or is this my last and if it is my last did i do everything i wanted to in life. The sun set to me is a time of reflection but also a time to enjoy one of my God's and science's awesome creations.
